Main Engine Cruise Alternator
The lowest cost supply of power the vessel can produce that we have been able to determine is from a cruise alternator. This comprises a correctly sized alternator synchronized to run with the main engine at cruise speed. It is a very simple installation that provides the ship with high tension power; 110, 230 or 440v while steaming.
The cruise alternator shown on the right of the main engine.
The cruise alternator can be conveniently engaged once the vessel is under way and supply all the ships running requirements with any surplus diverted to charging the house battery bank via the inverter/chargers.
This allows for far less running of the generator set when cruising and as a safety factor provides another source of high tension power.
