W60 "BASTION" interior and exterior images
Of the photo journalists who specialize in marine work Ivor Wilkins tops the list. Certainly some of his images caught during any of the last five Americas Cup campaigns have been inspirational. You can view examples at www.offshoreimages.com
For those with an interest in classic yachts Ivor has written "Classics" an account of the resurgence of interest in the preservation of New Zealand's yachting heritage. A book I would recommend to anyone with an appreciation of wood, brass, varnish, shearlines, nice tucks and lovely buttocks! All displayed by 100 year old darlings - with their stories told.
When the opportunity came for us to arrange for a photographic record - interior and exterior - of "Bastion" Ivor rang for a helicopter and we picked a great afternoon on the Hauraki Gulf.
A yacht is a very personal object. We appreciate "Bastions" owner allowing this record to be taken.
Bastion is fully loaded at 72 ton and running at her cruise speed; 9.5 knots, the slide show can tell the rest......
